Barcelona is a place for every tourist with everything just a short walk from your BARCELONA ACCOMMODATION. Whether here for the sun and sea, most people’s idea of a holiday, or here to tour the city and its famous architecture, looking over the many historical monuments, you can sit and gorge yourself in the various restaurants and you will find it all here. Whether you favour Tapas or Pintxo, French or Italian, Japanese or Chinese or even fast food, everything is here as far as the gastronomical restaurants that line the streets of Barcelona are concerned.

Wander along the small narrow streets or the bars along the front you will find bars offering either the tapas from the southern coastline of Spain or Pintxo, which comes from the northern side Catalan and up to the Basque regions, Both are meant to go with a drink with good company instead of spending a night in a restaurant with friends round a large table enjoying a menu of whatever is the choice or menu of the day is. You could spend the evening enjoying the atmosphere with friends and relatives sharing little snacks on the table set amongst your drinking glasses. Share your plate with your friends: take a little bread and dip in the various sauce and meat dishes.

Tapas is the name of the Southern Spain’s traditional snacks: meat or fish cooked in a sauce, some eaten cold while others hot and always served with a bread meant for the socializing with friends. They are the cornerstone of Spanish life. The pintxo is the northern Spain version; the only real difference between the two is that the pintxo is served with the bread spiked to the various foods with a toothpick or skewer, served in individual portions as opposed to a small bowl. The tapas bars, or Pinchos as the pintxo bar is referred to, are the smaller bars around town and in Barcelona there are plenty of both varieties; a few even serve both variants.

The name Pincho means Spike in Spanish. Latin America have a similar name for what the Spanish call brochettes, which is another thing altogether, but there is nothing like enjoying a brochette with your early morning coffee on one of those lazy mornings Spain is renowned for. Almost any ingredient can be used for either the tapas or pintxo, but the more popular are fish such as cod, anchovy and hake, the Spanish omelette tortilla de patatas or stuffed peppers and croquettes. Pintxo can get sophisticated, consisting of elaborate and expensive seafood or meat. So when you’re at your BARCELONA ACCOMMODATION remember to bring a little money to enjoy a wealth of tastes in a single night out.
