The Price of Rugs Never Decides the Quality
So what should you look for to know about the quality of the rug? Quality of fiber, dyes used and knots! This scale is the easiest way to judge worth of any area rug. Typically rugs are made up of wool; the quality of wool fiber decides the type of dyes used. Fine quality of wool is dyed in hues extracted from vegetables, fruits roots or plants, whereas, synthetic dyes are used to color cheaper wools and nylons. Construction of rug is also a key factor to decide on the quality of area rug. Handmade area rugs are the finest quality rugs. To check if the rug is handmade or machine made, turn it over and look at its back for the pattern. In hand made area rugs the pattern is apparent, if you can not see the pattern clearly the rug is not hand made. If the rug passes it first test, check the fringes. In hand made area rugs, fringes come out as an extension of the threads used for construction of the rugs and are not sewed on separately. Cloth backing can also help you to check if the rug is hand made or machine tufted. If the rug you are planning to buy has a cloth backing, then think again because this rug has something to hide. Cloth backing is mostly added to a rug either to hide the flaws of weaving in it or the glue that is holding the rug together. So before buying a rug, just don’t check the price tag, but the quality of area rugs so that your money doesn’t go to waste!
