Chief Executive Stephen Elop proudly says, “Nokia has flogged more than million of its new Windows based Lumia handsets in the last quarter, and now we are going to offer Lumia series to other markets such as China and Latin America in the middle of 2012 to enlarge profit figures”. Notwithstanding of new Lumia, Nokia’s total shipments slips 31%, i.e. 19.6 million in the last quarter of the year. And if we compare the figures with Apple iPhone shipments, Apple has sold 37 million in the same quarter of the year. There are several numbers of advantages of being a whipping dog in the handset market, because expectations are not very great. I think this is the reason investors are not afraid of Nokia’s latest sale which had 21% slump in the sales.

Nokia applied a new strategy of using Windows software to get back its market share after it lost a battle with iPhones and Android running smart phones with its Symbian software. Even the company knows that it is able to sell fewer Symbian smart phones than it had actually thought. As for the sale figures of Nokia, the sale of its key Devices and Services unit declined 29% to around €6 billion in the quarter, a year ago prices of average handsets were €69 that came down to €53. Besides, Nokia’s feature phone units also saw a setback with 1%. However, the manufacturer hopes to recover very soon.

Nokia did well and went ahead in the right direction last year, yet it has a number of goals to be achieved this year. MR, Elop, chief executive of the company says, “We are now passing through a time of change”. By going through the words and future planning of Nokia’s top executive, we can easily assume Nokia will soon recover from its bad time. Nokia’s Lumia 800 and 900 are top selling handsets of the brand in contemporary mobile phone market.

And why should it be, when the handsets of this series are equipped with a number of cutting edge features such as pretty numbers of snapper, high speed internet tethering applications and hoard of multimedia applications? On the top of all, they are powered by powerful application processor for smooth running of applications.
