The Green Bay Packers received discouraging news about Alex Green's(notes) knee. Green will miss the remainder of the 2011-12 NFL season after getting injured on a first-quarter kickoff return. They received much better news with regards to the hand injury that Greg Jennings(notes) had suffered during the Packers' 33-27 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on October 23, 2011.

Mike McCarthy informed the media that Jennings was diagnosed with a bruised hand. The Packers were making certain that Jennings hadn't suffered a fracture after he claimed that he injured it after his first catch. Jennings will be available immediately after the bye week when they play the San Diego Chargers on November 6.

Jennings played through the injury and racked up 147 receiving yards. That included a 79-yard touchdown reception on a blown coverage from the Vikings' secondary.

The Packers have proven that they can survive injuries to key receivers. Jermichael Finley(notes) didn't play for most of the 2010-11 season after he suffered a knee injury in Week 5. The Packers' offense also had to overcome an early-season injury to Ryan Grant(notes) in their path to the postseason. The Packers would eventually win Super Bowl XLV after James Starks'(notes) emergence allowed the Packers to have a balanced offensive attack during the postseason.

Finley and Grant have returned since then. Randall Cobb(notes) has also joined the party. The offensive line has improved after Daryn Colledge(notes) wasn't re-signed during the offseason. Bryan Bulaga(notes) has continued to evolve as an anchor on the outside of the offensive line. The offense has had another season to build chemistry with one another.

Losing a go-to receiver probably wouldn't hurt the Packers as much as other teams since they have so much talent at the skill positions. Rodgers has also been surgical with his distribution of the football to different receivers.

Therefore, I think the Packers could've survived an injury to Jennings. Of course, that's easier said than done. Jennings has 42 receptions for 677 yards and five touchdowns. He's fifth in overall receiving yardage. Jennings has certainly evolved into Aaron Rodgers'(notes) go-to receiver over the past few years.

Fortunately, we won't have to find out how this offense would roll without Jennings.

Joshua Huffman grew up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula as a Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs enthusiast. His favorite Packer moments include Super Bowl XXXI, XLV, and Al Harris(notes) interception return following Matt Hasselbeck's(notes) "We're gonna score" comments. As a Packers and Cubs fan, he suffered through Steve Bartman and "4th & 26" in a span of three months。
