Federal Nepotism Unfair to Health Care, Medical Equipment Businesses and Consumers

The United States federal government's moratorium on Medicare licenses is a disgraceful act of nepotism, the sole purpose of which is to protect the business interests of high-dollar campaign contributors through the limitation of competition and at the direct expense of American health care consumers.

By now, most Americans who don't live in an underground bunker are aware of the federal government's ongoing efforts to strip citizens of their freedom-of-choice as it pertains to health care and medicine.

What many Americans are unaware of is that the federal government – in an act of nepotism aimed at protecting the business interests of high-dollar campaign contributors and bundlers – has enacted a ”temporary” moratorium on licenses for companies seeking to do business with Medicare.

The owner of a medical equipment store in Louisiana recently pointed out that while his competitors have been given a green light to make money off of sales of medical equipment and supplies that are billable through Medicare, his business is not.

This is a heinous abuse of both medical equipment businesses and consumers. From a business standpoint, this man has to try to keep his business up and running despite the fact that the government has imposed a competitive disadvantage relative to his competitors.

From the standpoint of the patient/consumer, according to this business owner, who has asked to remain anonymous for fear of retailiation from the government. According to him, the choice for patients/consumers is to do business with inferior companies that offer inferior products and even more inferior services, versus having to come out-of-pocket in order to ensure that the DME and/or assistive technology products being purchased are safe, and that the company the products are being purchased from will be around to provide instruction and service in the event problems or complications may arise at any point in the future.

It is extremely unfair to both parties, and the sole reason for this moratorium is to limit the amount of competition big-money donors in the healthcare industry must face.

It is a disgraceful and reprehensible act of crony capitalism that seeks to reward inferiority while lowering the standard and quality of health care for all Americans - rich and poor alike.
