When booking your SPAIN HOLIDAY RENTALS there are a few interesting facts about Spain that you may or may not know. First of all, it sits in the south-western part of Europe and is bordered by the Mediterranean Sea. The other places that border Spain are France, Andorra and the Bay of Biscay which takes care of the northern part. The Atlantic Ocean and Portugal make up the western and north-western side of Spain.

Spain is a monarchical country and should be referred to in a formal situation as the Kingdom of Spain. The current monarch is King Juan Carlos the First; starting from 1978 the government became a Parliamentary monarchy. The most popular tourist destination is the nation's capitol of Madrid. Spain is not only the second largest country in Europe next to France, but it is the second most visited country in the world. The three top tourist destinations in Spain are Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia.

Spain's climate is diverse due to its varied geographical terrain, from its mountain ranges to its pristine beaches and all the rolling countryside in-between. When they say “the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain” it isn't true: it falls in the mountain regions for the most part. The other fact is Spain is probably best known for its coastline of which there is some 8,000 kilometres of length. Spain may have nominated Spanish as its national language but there are several dialects spoken here; some of the major ones are Catalan, Euskera and Valencian along with Gallego.

At one time in Spain's past history, the Moors ruled Spain and the Muslim religion was the main religion, but since 1492 Spain has been Catholic. It does however allow Protestants, Jews and Muslims to practice their faith. There are also thousands of Gypsies living throughout Spain.

If you believe that flamenco is just a dance you would be wrong: it is more than that. If you stop and listen to the soulful sounds of the lonely guitar, with its matching words and the way a dancer moves around the dance floor, it will soon capture your imagination.

When you say the word “soccer” our minds immediately think of Real Madrid and FC Barcelona as they are famous throughout the world. Football plays an important part in Spanish life; the young boys start at an early age playing this sport.

Now that you have booked your SPAIN HOLIDAY RENTALS, you need to remember to bring your international driving license with you. A license from any European Union country is considered an international driving license and is acceptable here. If you are under eighteen though, driving is illegal in Spain.
