CSS grid A / B testing much easier
How many times have you tested your website recently? If the answer is often 'is you can stop reading now. But if you already thought of 'sometimes', 'little' or 'never' you can learn something from this article. It's like this: Most companies (and probably you too) to do testing, but are stuck. For example, because it is difficult to create a new layout to make the structure as completely to throw items or to remove or add. They are trapped in a content management system or template that they have no freedom to try new things. And that's precisely where in the A / B testing is all about. However, there is a solution. A CSS grid gives you the freedom you need.
Share your website and go to Lego blocks to build
If you have a grid (grid) used to share the site in blocks. Each block can be filled with content. You can then start stacking blocks (like a game of Tetris but from bottom to top) what makes you complete freedom. I'll show you. This is the website:
You see the good. It is a white surface: each time you start with a blank canvas. A template is not fixed and every page you design and build your own.
The grid consists of imaginary lines where the blocks are aligned. The lines and the blocks do not normally see (only the actual content), but we can see if we are building the page:
A grid consisting of columns (columns) separated by gutter (space). In the picture above, I used a grid with 12 columns of 60px wide and 20px width of gutter. This is just one of many possibilities because you can think of any grid you want.
Now I can create blocks of content that I put on the grid:
And I can quickly create a different structure:
The content is not fixed and you can divide it exactly as you want. You do not have knowledge of web design, and you do not keep contact with your web designer.
The system behind it (for the techies)
The idea is quite simple and has been around longer. If you really want to go deeper is this article from Smashing Magazine a good starting point. The following is a brief example.
I want a page 3 rows. Row 1 is two blocks (one five columns wide the other 7), row 2 gives a block (of 12 columns wide), and row 3 gives three blocks (all of four columns wide).
Resulting in:
* Row 1
o Block of 5
o Block 7
* Row 2
o Block of 12
* Row 3
o Block of 4
o Block of 4
o Block of 4
Then you can them with any content you want to fill.
Fortunately, you do not own HTML to make it all work. For each CMS plug-ins are available. For WordPress WP columns in my opinion the best.
Put the other versions of Google Website Optimizer (or another tool)
The code of the other versions you've created, you can cut and paste into Google Website Optimizer.
For this to work you need a multivariate experiment 'start. You (or your builder) put a 'page sections' tag around the entire code of the website (just after the and ). This one you only do once and then you can reuse for each test.
