Although we strongly believe in the immense value to society created by the online dating industry, we want to be straightforward with you, and let you know about some of the negative aspects of online dating as well.


Among these problems is the fact that the vast majority of online dating sites charge users membership fees. In an editorial post called “Why you should never pay for online dating,” a founder of a free dating site claimed that pay-dating exploits users and “have a unique [financial] incentive to profit from their customers’ disappointment.”



Here are other issues about online dating:


1). Some websites don’t allow members to search or preview profiles before they pay the subscription fee.


2). Most dating sites state profiles as online even years after since the last time the person has logged in. This makes it seem like there are more available members than there actually are.


3). Some sites require both the sender and recipient of messages be subscribers before they can communicate.


4). Some profiles may not represent actual daters, but are “bait profiles” that are placed there by site owners to attract new paying members.


5). People often misrepresent themselves on dating sites, in order to better attract mates. Don’t do this!!! For one, your dishonesty will be revealed once you actually start going on dates with your partner. Furthermore, wouldn’t you rather your partner be pleasantly surprised by you, than to be disappointed by you after seeing your gorgeous but exaggerated profile picture?


6). Some stalkers exist on some dating sites, so be careful about meeting people in private places without a lot of people.


7). Some sites bill you even after you have terminated your trial membership, so be careful to check a site’s billing procedures if that site charges you for membership fees.
