Eye is significant part of our body and hence it should be protected from UV rays, blue light and overexposure. The main purpose of sunglass is to provide comfortable view in glare. It also protects eyes from dust particles, water and other injurious things. It blocks the UV rays and reflects the glare from shining surface. Sunglasses are extremely important for our eyes, so special precautions should be taken while selecting the raw materials.

The lenses are mainly of light filtering nature and a frame, on which the lenses are mounted. Colorized plastics like polycarbonate are used in manufacturing lenses. However, for the high quality brands, glass is used. Good quality lenses are optically precise and do not alter lines and shapes. High quality lenses are made up of polished optical glass. These lenses are also made distortion free. The glass type used in these lenses is scratch resistant and mainly borosilicate is used. In order to increase its resistant power, it is tempered with various chemicals.

The major function of sunglass is to reflect the extreme glare and harmful rays of the sun. To make it a good reflector or good absorber for certain frequencies, metallic oxide pigments along with some soluble organic dyes are used in lens manufacturing. The quantity of these additives should be such that it would not alter the colors to a large extent. Brown and amber color is used widely but grey lenses are best to use as the level of distortion is negligible in this color. Distortion is highest in blue and purple lens.

The lens should block the maximum amount of blue light which is harmful to eyes. Blue light is basically the part of lower frequencies ultraviolet rays. In order to reflect the blue light, brown or amber is chiefly used. The only drawback with brown or amber is that they produce some color distortion. For reducing the reflection, various chemicals coatings are added to lenses.

For manufacturing frames, plastic or metal is used. Metal frames are expensive and comprise of the blend of nickel and other metals. The durable hinges, flexible temples, comfortable nose pads are some of the important features of frames.

Make sure to choose quality sunglasses and if you are looking for branded one then go for dior sunglasses or  occhiali da sole.
