You are settled nicely in your home as a new wife or probably with a new kid. Your plans of staying at home and taking care of your kids is going swell. But you would like to develop a line of hand crafted jewelry that you can do at your spare time and still earn so that you can also help in the family’s finances. Or you have already started making your first few pieces and you are already thinking of marketing them somehow.

Then a good way to market your products is to make catalogs. Probably for now you do not have the budget for big-scale catalog printing for your jewelry products, but you can still do it yourself, either with a printed output or an online version. The important thing is that you have a reading material that contains a list of your products, the description, the prices, and of course, the outstanding photographs. That is how you can best sell your special, custom-made jewelry.

You can show your catalogs to friends or you can bring them when joining bazaars. It will be much easier for people to choose from among your designs that are pictured there. Or you can also upload a copy online should there be people who would be interested to order from you.

So how do you make your jewelry catalog?

First of all, take good quality photos. If you do not have a good camera, then ask someone who has a DLSR to do it for you. Or better yet, bring your photos to a professional photo studio. You may get the idea for the best shots, angles, or arrangements from existing jewelry catalogs produced by big companies.

Second, create detailed descriptions of your pieces. People would want to know more about the item that struck their fancy. In your text, try to answer questions like what is it made of, how big it is, and other pertinent information that your readers would like to know about your product. Include the prices of the product.

Third, organize the contents of your catalog. Howwould you like to present your products? Would you like to classify them as per material used or as per the pricing? You can lump the cheaper pieces together and put them in the front of the catalog while reserving the more expensive premium pieces of the other half. Or you may segregate them based on the materials, like beads, stones, glass, precious metals, etc. This would also be a nice way to categorize because it will be easy to place them on the table of contents.

Fourth, you can still make a catalog even if you only know how to use Microsoft Word. You could not do a lot of effects with a Word Document but you can still make your pamphlet. You can probably size your catalog to a half of a bond paper and maybe fit three items in one page. If you only have a few items for now, you can probably make use of one page for a single product.

Fifth, choose your template from among the many free designs that come with Word. These usually have default text and photo boxes that you can click and replace with your own. Don’t forget to include your contact details.

Your catalog printing may not be as professional looking at those of established jewelers but it will give your clients an idea of what you have and can do. Catalogs are a great way to promote your product so you might want to bring it along with you wherever you go so that when someone asks, you always have something to show.
