The answer unfortunately is a big no. And the reasons are many as we will find out in this write up. But all the same, it is undeniable that RIM took the bold and extremely business savvy decision to bring out not just a smartphone that has a touch sensitive screen (like the iPhone or the Android smartphones) but also with a slider full QWRTY key board. This is effectively offering both the things, the modern day touchscren (for keeping in step with the joneses) and the physical keyboard that has become an inseparable part of all Blackberry smartphones.

A little more on the positives. RIM has not only given the Blackberry Torch 9800 the first ever touchscreen, but also its latest Operating System in the form of version 6. Price wise also the Torch 9800, we are sure, will count among one of the cheapest smartphones ever. Even otherwise, cheap Blackberry phones are more a norm these days than an exception.

Whatever else, it can be safely stated here that the updated operating system delivers where it matters – be it multi-touch, tabbed browsing or running the HTML 5 browser. Now, you can very well point out that these are pretty much standard fare in practically all rival smartphones. All the same, it is true that RIM has with the Torch 9800 addressed the issue and rectified as well.

Technology web portals like Techradar were reasonably happy with most of the other features that had to do with user interface. But only reasonably. This includes multiple home screens, Blackberry App World and the social networking options available to users.

You see basically the Blackberry Torch 9800 is aimed at defeating the likes of the Cheap iPhones and the Android-based smartphones. Here in lies, its problems, Both iPhone and Android device users are spoiled beyond recognition with access to lakhs and lakhs of applications and fine social integration experiences extended to them. On both the scores, the Torch 9800 falls flat.

Coming back to the prices, the Blackberry Torch is available for free under several £ 30 per month (some even for less) contract phones deal. And the SIM free price starts from £ 399.99.
