Contract Phones Facing Both Ups and Downs

The surging ahead of the Android based smartphones and the fact that most of the Apple iPhone 4.0 sales as well as the iPad 2 sales have been through contracts only have once again catapulted contract phones to the top of the reckoning. But the rise in VAT applicable made by the Government does come as a dampner as this one moves sure to raise the prices to a level they may not be totally alarming buy may upset a few customers who otherwise would have continued using contract phones.

But there are positive developments happening as well. There has been a clear move to reduce the contract period by the network service providers. The network carriers – O2, Orange, 3 Mobile, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Talk Mobile and Virgin Mobile – all realise that no more are customers that patient and willing to pay it out for a lengthy 24 month periods. Instead the emphasis these days is to opt increasingly for 12 months contracts only.

New Developments T-Mobile, for instance, has in March, 2011 introduced for the first time in the UK mobile phone marekt place a range of six monthly business contract plans wherein it is offering new handsets like the Nokia C3-01, Samsung Monte S5620, Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 and others for free under its six monthly plans that come for £ 25 per month to £ 30 per month monthly payment plans.

There is more good news coming for UK contract phone users and others who would like to try out a contract phone. The new EU regulations that are scheduled to become a Bill of law here by the end of May, 2011 means that every network service provider or mobile phone dealer will have to offer a 12 month contract phone plan. Now, some do and others do not.

The European Telecoms Package is intended to stabilise priced in such a way that customers are able to quickly change over to new smartphones every year or two. Interestingly enough, the contract phones were a rage till 2005 after which the network service providers changed their priorities slightly and started focussing more and more on 24 month contracts and the 18 month plans.
