It was first called Longacre square and was renamed Times Square when The New York Times changed headquarters and erected the Times Building (now called One Times Square.) At the beginning of the last century this was the hotspot of such entertainers like Fred Alstair and Charlie Chaplin, which is why it had the nickname of Tenderloin.

He you can find the latest Broadway shows such as The Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, Billy Elliot and loads more. One of the key places to go to if you want tickets is the TKTS. This is considered one of the best ways of getting tickets as they will sell tickets for the shows at a discount prices. Some of the discounts can range from 25% to 50% off face value. This ticket booth (pronounced Tee-Kay Tee-Ess) is considered one of the land marks of Times Square, as it has been a part of it for over 40 years. There are nine historic theatres that have been preserved in this area

That can be found in the centre of Times Square. It has been in the same location for over 80 years.
