It is in this place where the native Americans have kept the same traditions that have been set for many years. They have a belief that they have always lived in Western North Carolina with evidence of specially crafted tools and spear points indicating that they have lived there for over 11,000 years which is possibly the end of the last age. It is said around 8,000 BC that there were villages that were scattered around this region and as time went by they developed into settled towns that had more order by following political and religious means of living. It also a time when agriculture, crafts and other activities that were useful to the people like archery were starting to become a everyday thing. Their skills with the arrow was quite impressive and was a means of them hunting for food as their arrows were so powerful that they were allow to stop animals such as elks and bears. It was also used as a way to defend themselves, as when the Spanish first arrived in Cherokee territory they tried to pull back but the Cherokee hunter used their arrows on them with great skill and precision.. The Cherokees were a more caring tribe as they saw nature as their furniture and they were practically set when it came to other essentials such as food, shelter and clothes. Their system has worked for many years and was on that was is open to new ideas. They were welcomed various newcomers cultures such as fruit like peaches and watermelons to more important ways of communicating such as writing. The Cherokee alphabet was introduced by Sequoyah who introduced it to the national council in 1821. This set the trend and enabled most of the tribe to become literate. But everything changed with the Trail of Tears which was the forced relocation which saw them removed from their land. This saw many Native Americans not only the Cherokee tribe moved from their original habitats to an area in the western states (Where Oklahoma is today). Those that have remained and were able to keep hold of their land or others that returned by various means continued to create a new type of society that would take what they learnt from the past while continuing to strive in the present.
