With A level results recently being released in the UK, many students are preparing to head off to university and begin their study careers. One of the first lessons they will learn is that student life is all about balancing work and play. Ready access to the Internet and mobile devices can help students achieve this goal and meet the demands of their courses.

In a recent student survey conducted by Endsleigh, 66% of students indicated that they connect to the Internet more than four times a day. When connected, students indicated that they regularly update their Facebook profiles, catch up with friends on MSN or Skype, listen to and download the latest music tracks off Spotify, or watch the most talked about video clips on You Tube. Email also featured highly on the students’ Internet activity list, with Hotmail and their university email system being used most frequently.

This survey confirmed that hi-tech gadgets remain a popular means of social interaction among students. Of those interviewed, 88% indicated that they would take their mobile devices with them when they went to university. Similarly, 84% would take their laptops and 29% their gaming console.

The last thing students should have to worry about is whether their personal belongings will be safe on campus and in their residential halls. Taking out a student insurance policy will provide cover for those belongings, including laptops and mobile devices, in the event of theft or accidental damage.
