Kids Combo: Outdoor/Indoor Portable Foldable Tent House+2 Colour Pencil Sets
Hum bhi agar bachche hote! A roof above my head Six years old rag picker, Prabhu, had never seen such a small and beautiful Kids Tent before. I told him that it was a Portable and Foldable Tent House. All the children who were picked up from the footpath and brought here for Children’s Day were given the Kids Combo: Outdoor/Indoor Portable Foldable Tent House+2 Colour Pencil Sets as gifts. Rani got a pink tent while Sonu, Bittu and Prabhu got blue ones. I taught them how to unfold the Outdoor/Indoor Tent House and then put it on the ground. Prabhu couldn’t believe his eyes. He neither has a house nor a tent. The only tents he had seen were dirty, tattered brown ones on the footpath; and he didn’t like them. “Apun ko toh khulle me sone ki aadat hai. Mast. Upar taare, mast hawa. Khula khula footpath-ich apna ghar hai” he said. But these tents that we gave them were so colourful, like the “ajooba-ghars” that the circus-walaas put up in their parade grounds. All they had to do was open the four easily foldable aluminium rods and the Portable and Foldable Tent House given to these footpath children was ready in seconds. “Is khidki se kya mast hawa aati hai!” Prabhu said, referring to the two net mesh windows for ventilation, and added “Bombay ka footpath se ooncha-ooncha building ka khidki to dikhta hai” but as he rightly said, one has to climb a lot many stairs to get to such a window and look down on the footpath. So true, I thought. “Maloom Meghna didi, aapne jo hame rangeen Colour Pencils Sets diya na, humne akkha zindagi use nai kiya.” Prabhu said. Sonu candidly added, “Abbe dekha-ich nai. Tu usse karne ki baat karta hai!” They had never even touched a colour-pencil before. “Itne saare rang… bilkul chuski-waale ke botal me rangeen paani ke maafik!” he exclaimed referring to the various coloured sorbet use by an ice-candy man. Sitting in his Portable and Foldable Tent House and scribbling images on a blank sheet of paper using the Colour Pencils Sets, Prabhu told me that he always wondered how the lump of ice would taste with all that colourful liquid poured on it! His friends – Rani, Bittu and Sonu were sitting next to him, each one busy filling white sheets of paper with colourful fantasy. Green trees, red balloons, orange sun, blue umbrellas, black cars, grey roads; most interestingly, each one had drawn a blue or a pink Kids’ Tent House on the drawing too… a roof above their heads! They didn’t know when they will get to do this next; they were enjoying their ‘Children’s Day’ to the hilt!
