Get Up Get Out Get Active

You are who you think you are

There is a term that we have come to identify with called Youthful Aging. The term within itself seems like an enormous contradiction, but only in the world of oxymorons. There is a way to youthfully age, to enjoy a higher quality of life due to a healthier body.

One of the many challenges in developing a healthier body has nothing to do with the physical aspect, but everything to do with the mental struggle. Your mind holds the position of CEO of your body and unless the CEO signs off on this new activity then the body will not participate. This is the reason some many people start their work out strategy with so much enthusiasm and excitement only to eventually crash and burn in defeat.

At some point during the journey to a healthier you, your mind decides to quit.

I am reminded of a wonderful inspiring story of William Henry “Burro” Schmidt. "Burro" Schmidt single handedly dug a 2087 ft tunnel through the solid rock of Copper Mountain. The Burro Schmidt Tunnel is located in Last Chance Canyon within the El Paso Mountains in California’s Mojave Desert. This one-man 38 year effort which began as a gold mine in1906 became the legacy of a man who won the battle in his mind.

For 38 years Burro Schmidt showed up at the entrance of that tunnel determined to get to the other side. What is so inspiring about Burro Schmidt is he started his journey with the hopes of accomplishing a short term goal, and ended up leaving a legacy for generations to come.

Burro Schmidt’s mind physically challenged his body for 38 years, pushing him to do what was seemingly impossible for one man to accomplish on his own. Your mind has to be programmed to push your body all the way through your workout routine. At the moment your mind quits, your body will soon follow.

Self coaching plays a very key role in accomplishing any goal in life no matter if it’s as simple as a morning walk or as ambitious as retuning back to college in order to pick up where you left off. What you tell yourself determines your completion percentage. If you coach yourself from a determined mindset of finishing what you started then you will also share in the same triumph as Burro Schmidt who moved a mountain with his bare hands.

You are who you think you are!
