As stated by an Act of Parliament, the Indian Institutes of Technology which are popularly known as the IITs are institutes of national importance, as they provide excellent education. India has 15 IITs till date. They are located in Bombay, Madras, Patna, Mandi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Hyderabad, Roorkee, Guwahati, Gandhinagar, Kanpur, Indore, Kharagpur, Bhubneswar, and Delhi. IITs have been providing premium class education since the past so many decades. The Banaras Hindu University (IT-BHU), Varanasi and Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad are among the oldest institutes in India and are known all over for their excellent study pattern. Students who are appearing or have appeared in 2009 exams are eligible to sit for exams. The offered course is that of B.Tech which is of 4 year duration.
