"Why Are You Doing Everything Yourself?"
For some people this may feel very alien, I can hear some of you thinking, “If I have to explain it all to someone else I may as well just do it myself”, “I can do it quicker”, or “It won’t be right”. This may be because you have a do-it-yourself attitude but this could be preventing you from delegating some of your tedious or time consuming tasks. As families and careers grow, the available time to manage everything becomes a limiting factor. Making a commitment to let go of certain tasks or projects, passing them on to others, and freeing up some of your own scarce time for more crucial matters becomes essential. But, experts agree, delegating can be one of the hardest things for anyone to do. To be able to outsource some of your tasks, you might need to change your mind set. You have to know what’s important to you. If you could hire the right person to delegate to and build up a trusting relationship with, would it not be worth passing on those annoying, tedious or daunting tasks that you just don’t ever seem to get around to finishing? Some examples could be your leaflet design and distribution, internet or market research, maintaining customer lists, data Input, creating or sending a mailing campaign, posting on blogs, forums and social networking sites, submitting press releases or creating online accounts and profiles, all of which can be very time-consuming. Don't forget your personal tasks too like calendar management, writing/sending birthday/greetings cards or invitations, burning CD's, gift shopping, making travel plans, errand running, etc. - it can literally be anything? So what is on your plate that you shouldn't be doing, hate doing or aren't really that good at, and why not delegate it over to someone else? There are many places that you could turn to for help but one seems to stand out from the crowd for me... aMillionJobsToDo.
