Spending some time on Twitter recently (as I quite often do) I came across a post with this link
http://thefuturebuzz.com/2009/05/10/reasons-you-should-blog-and-not-just-tweet/ which I followed and read! Go and have a read now and see what you think!?? If you're a blogger, or a tweeter, or both... you may find the comments useful and interesting!

So when you get a moment click the link and then come back and read my blog post - and if you think it has merit please link it back to your site, using http://haywardhomestead.blogspot.com/ - thank you!

... So ... how did you go!? Did that make sense to you!? It actually got me to thinking what a great medium http://www.twitter.com/ is! It is a great idea to brand yourself and Tweet about it and then to network with others and tweet about them too - because advertising begets advertising begets more word of mouth for your dollar -or in the case of Twitter - for FREE! Who doesn't want that?

But, think about this.... what is the viability where there is what I call 'the Blinkability' attached?

So you may be there, in the stream tweeting merrily, or you may have slipped out to get coffee, answer the phone, pick up the kids or your attention went to your blog... you missed something... or you missed a golden opportunity to tweet about your business or a great link to your fabulous blog post you just wrote. Essentially, if someone blinks, they miss it! Of course there is always retweets, and messages to @ soandso, but what if you don't know who soandso is... what if you don't know they were lurking (otherwise watching the stream) or tweeting and you just missed the boat! Well I suppose what you don't know doesn't hurt you!

There is no question that Twitter is a fabulous medium! It is essentially addictive - and it's essential that you become addicted so you can use the power of Tweet and get your messages across! Power to the Tweople (tweeple) I say! It's wonderful! I have been a party to a bridging of the global gap and as Rhonda Oliver put it "how is it that you seem so close yet you are so far away?" I have come into contact with some fabulous people I would otherwise have not known existed!

However, does blogging have 'more' power? Some say 'blogging is so yesterday!' But if you want to brand yourself, as most people are attempting to do these days, in a world where everyone is jostling for a place, then blogging is quite possibly the medium with the most longetivity and power to reach out through cyberspace, grab people by the keyboard and make them sit(e) up and listen.

Twitter works, it's fun, it's magical - there's no doubt that it's a very positive place to be with many affirmations or proverbs about how to live your life and succeed in business flowing through! It is a worthwhile place and a great way to spend some time self-promoting! It is a tool that has it's place! It is a worthy module for getting your point across, albeit in 140 characters! And I find it hard to speak in 140 anything! However, irrespective of the character count, it is possible to become succinct enough to get your point across, even while multi-tasking! I am often blogging, uploading photos, taking calls, dealing with children or cooking a meal (at times) while tweeting or responding in forums and on blog posts!

But there again, there's that quotient, the issue of the 'blinkability!' What did you just miss!? What did someone else just miss? Twitter is a fast-paced little world with a lot of things happening and you have to be the one to grab the snap-shot of attention so that you become retweeted throughout all of Twitterverse - and that you can become a known entity among many of the well-known names! You want to amass followers... but don't want the programs offering that 5000 people will join you in 5 minutes! In just over 5 weeks I have amassed over 800 followers - perhaps that is typical? I'm not sure, but I'm very grateful to have such a list - and I count some new 'dear' friends among them who I look for in the stream regularly now. Some of them, due to the time difference and my busy life, I keep missing!

So, I will keep blogging, so people can keep reading and I will keep tweeting, so I can keep promoting - it's all part of the bigger picture and it certainly can't hurt!

Remember to enter forums and read blogs and comment - eventually you will get noticed. We all have our story to tell - yours is just as important and just as interesting as the next person's. I guess it's all about how you write it!

On that note, I should end here because I think the Universe is trying to tell me something today as I have had problems with 2 keyboards - the 'i' fell off my lap top keyboard and I can't get it back on, and the space bar keeps sticking on the other one... I get the feeling I was meant to be doing something else, but as with all things in my life, I persisted and I am going to win!

Til next time
Tweet you later
