Holiday gift giving is simple if you go back to the basics. Think about giving from the heart items people can actually use. I always suggest food because people really appreciate fine foods and when the economy is struggling we start buying basics, so give your friends the finer gifts of food.

I think this holiday season while tell a lot about consumers choices with the economy the way it is I think people will do more practical gift giving. I think consumers will choose more food items because people can actually savor them and not just add another thing to the ton of things we already have.

I love the concept of food giving because people can savor the gift and know that is was really thought through. For the cookie lovers out there Bizzy Lizzy Bakery.com would be my choice. These cookies are amazing. They can actually be used as a meal replacement and WOW will your friends be impressed. I like the fact that you know what you are going to pay up front. Their website is easy to maneuver or you can just call. They bake artisan style and everything is fresh.

If you have tea lover’s in your crowd I would go with Lightofdayorganics.com out of Traverse City, Michigan. I like the concept of buying from entrepreneurs; they are the heart and sole of the American Economy. They work hard and try to provide the best service to their customers.

Otherwise seek out the unique grocery stores that still believe in service. I was recently in a store called Westborn Market in Mid-Michigan and this store was impressive from many aspects. First of all the staff was amazing from Mark the owner to Samuel and Alex in the produce section. They all cared about their customers. Their shelves were well stocked with Michigan products and gave the customer so much variety to choose from. I watched as people picked out hostess gifts while others were carefully picking groceries for their family.

The holidays do not need to be stressful and we do not have to spend a fortune to give our friends and family truly thoughtful gifts. Buy from local producers, shop online for unique and fun food items from entrepreneurs who are fulfilling the American dream and don’t get caught up in the commercialism that comes with this holiday season.
